Biography
I was educated at Repton School, Derbyshire, going on to graduate from the University of Bristol Medical School in 1999. Having completed house jobs in medicine and surgery, I entered Basic Specialist Training in psychiatry in Birmingham. I subsequently undertook Higher Specialist Training in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and have worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Yorkshire since 2008.

I have 20 years’ experience working as a doctor in the NHS and independent sector. I obtained my Master’s Degree qualification in Mental Health Law in 2008 at the University of Northumbria. I have assessed and managed patients from a wide variety of backgrounds and have experience in the most common mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, stress, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, PTSD, alcohol/substance misuse and psychosis.

I have been involved in Mental Health Act Assessments as a Section 12(2) doctor, and have prepared reports for and given evidence as Responsible Clinician at Mental Health Tribunals. In addition to this I have become competent in the preparation of reports for the courts, and in the assessment of mentally disordered offenders in the prison setting. I have been preparing medico-legal reports since 2005 in civil and family court cases. My main areas of interest are personal injury, clinical negligence, and alcohol/substance misuse.
